What Is a Chest X-Ray (PA, Lateral, Decubitus, and Oblique Views)?

A chest X-ray is a common diagnostic imaging test that captures detailed pictures of the chest cavity, including the lungs, heart, airways, blood vessels, and bones of the chest and spine. Different views such as Posteroanterior (PA), Lateral, Decubitus, and Oblique are taken to provide comprehensive information about the chest structures. 4. Decubitus view is taken with the patient lying on their side to detect fluid levels.
5. Oblique views involve angling the body to visualize specific areas of the chest.
6. The patient is instructed to hold their breath briefly while the X-ray is taken to avoid blurring.
7. The entire procedure typically takes about 15 minutes.

Understanding the Results

The chest X-ray images are analyzed by a radiologist to identify any abnormalities such as infections, fluid accumulation, masses, fractures, or other pathologies.
